"Defendant Carlo Zarcone rose from his chair in the third-floor U.S. District Courtroom of Milwaukee’s Federal Building, 161 Wisconsin Street. It was noon on January 14, 1909, and Zarcone was about to be sentenced on a counterfeiting conviction. The Sicilian immigrant must have been intimidated by his surroundings.
